Marvel Comics

Marvel Comics is considered the largest American comic book publisher overtaking DC Comics. Its headquarters is in New York City and owned by Marvel Publishing, Inc., which in turn is a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. It is famous for its flagship comic characters namely Spider-Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Captain America, the X-Men, among others. The characters often live in one single reality better known as the Marvel Universe. Marvel characters are featured in other media such as television, film, theme park, video game, and apparel.

The company was founded by Martin Goodman as Timely Publications in 1939, and became Atlas Comics by the 1950s. The modern Marvel dates from 1961, with the release of Fantastic Four and other superhero titles created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, etc. It now has three divisions namely, Marvel UK, Epic Comics, and Star Comics. Marvel survived financial struggles and has emerged a stronger player in the comics industry.
