Spider-Man

Spider-Man, or Spidey, is a fictional character, which first appeared in “Amazing Fantasy #15” comic book published by Marvel Comics in August 1962. It was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist-plotter Steve Ditko. Spider-Man is the alter ego of Peter Parker, an orphaned teenager raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben who taught Peter that with great power comes great responsibility. He has the ability to cling to walls, shoot spider webs, and react to danger through his spider-sense. Many young fans could relate to the character who struggles with rejection, inadequacy, and loneliness. Spider-Man is featured in many Marvel comic book series, particularly in “The Amazing Spider-Man.”

Spider-Man was awarded fifth greatest comic book character by Empire Magazine. He is Marvel’s flagship character and company mascot. He appears in several forms of media such as television, newspaper, films, and tie-in products. After being under development for 25 long years, the film was eventually released in 2002 starring Tobey Maguire. It was regarded as the second most successful comic book flick next to “The Dark Night,” and is the 18th most successful film of all time. The success of the first film led to the release of two sequels, “Spider-Man 2” and “Spider-Man 3.”
